Can getting a new engine make your car get better gas mileage?

I dont know a thing about cars but I have been given a 86 oldmobile cutless supreme to get me around. It has horrible gas mileage but it’s all i have. Someone told me if I replaced the engine witha newer one it will get better gas milage is that true?

An engine and consider using it will require but that may help but if it has v8 you would spend on an engine and consider using.

in some situations yes, but not all of the time. i would start out with the routine tune up and air filter and see of that helps.

The engine if its still good that would alone give you better milage and be cheaper then new motor.
